Case Study – Telecom Provider

U.S. TELECOM PROVIDER SAVES MILLIONS ON NETWORK EQUIPMENT, SYSTEM DESIGN, INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

The Client

A U.S. based broadband telecommunications operator with a national network providing voice and data communications (broadband, VoIP, MPLS), and managed services (virtual servers, managed firewall, data storage, cloud-based voice, etc.) serving more than eight million customers.back of router

The Challenges

The client had been delivering broadband over DLS but was moving to DOCSIS.3.0 in several key markets. They were also engaged in a national effort to increase broadband speeds and availability to its U.S. customer base. In several markets, the desire was to boost speed to 100meg service. In an effort to deliver the required broadband speeds the client’s existing CMTS network infrastructure, Cisco ubr10000 systems, needed to be upgraded or replaced.

The client approached Worldwide Supply, who they know as vendor agnostic, to help them identify the pros and cons of a network upgrade versus a network replacement of the existing Cisco ubr1000 systems.

“Worldwide Supply’s solutions are crafted based upon an evaluation of our client’s current environment and by benchmarking their future requirements. Our experience and consultative approach helps customers maximize fiscal and physical resources to optimize network performance,” explains Brian Dugan, VP of Sales at Worldwide Supply.

Their major concerns of the client that needed to be considered by Worldwide Supply were:

  • Deployment Costs
  • Space Requirements
  • System Reliability
  • Configuration Redundancy
  • Cost of equipment maintenance and support after installation

In addition to the DOCSIS consulting provided by Worldwide Supply, the client was looking for a partner that could expertly install and provide third party hardware maintenance for the system once deployed in the network.

Worldwide Supply Solves Problems and Creates Solutions

Worldwide Supply’s customer support focuses on three channels of service:

  • Hardware Supply – Tested and certified equipment.
  • Consulting and Project Management – Design, installation and configuration support.
  • Network Maintenance Services – Comprehensive third-party solutions including advanced exchange hardware and 24×7 technical support.

The combination of these three elements became critical to the business success of the client.

“The client could have continued the expensive relationship directly with their OEM, but chose to move to a more modern and cost effective approach with Worldwide Supply, the client is very satisfied with the quality of our products and services,” says Brian Dugan, VP of Sales at Worldwide Supply.

The Outcome – Pre-owned Equipment and No OEM Upgrade Pressure

  • The cost savings of purchasing pre-owned products backed by a lifetime guarantee saved the telecom more than $1 million.
  • The client actualized an average savings of 70% on equipment maintenance fees and installation with a higher level of overall service coverage.
